It's that time of year and here on the Outer Banks we're gearing up for another great summer. The OBX is the perfect place for your next family vacation with events that everyone will find fun. Today we have the roundup of all the hottest summer events.

3rd Annual OBX Shred Fest

Come out on May 19 to Soundside for this family-friendly event that benefits local veterans and the special needs community. Featuring pro-skateboarders and pro-BMX riders. Kids will love to watch the BMX and skaters, plus there's live music and food.

Dare Day Festival

Head down to the Manteo Waterfront on June 2 for a day filled with family-fun events. Featuring live music, bouncy houses, two stages, face painting, and lots of food. Come out and have a fantastic day from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.


OBX Paddle Palooza

Once again the folks at Ocean Air Sports are hosting Paddle Palooza. This event takes place on June 2 and 3. If you are interested in Stand Up Paddle Boarding (SUP) or learning more about this popular and fun sport, this is the place to be. The event will take place in Avon. Outer Banks Annual Food Truck Showdown

The OBX is excited to have its first Food Truck showdown. This event is free to the public. Parking is also free. Taking place on June 3 from 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. the event will feature live music, local breweries, and of course awesome food trucks that will be the envy of foodies everywhere.

OBX SUP Race-Manteo

Kitty Hawk Surf Co. invites you to put your SUP skills to the test on this beautiful 3 or 6-mile course in downtown Manteo waterfront. The triangular course takes you around Roanoke Island Festival Park and out into the Shallowbag Bay, giving you both a challenging open water paddle and a more protected canal paddle. SUPtastic is perfect for beginners and experts alike with three main classes: Recreational, Elite12’6” and under, and Elite Open. The first class will begin at 9 a.m.

OBX Pirate Festival

On August 15 and 16 head over to Jockey’s Ridge Crossing. Get ready for a swashbucklin’ good time as Kitty Hawk Kites hosts the Outer Banks Pirate Festival.

Pirates of Blackbeard's Crew and mateys will be camped out at Jockey’s Ridge Crossing. Come and learn the vast history of pirates on the OBX. Participate in Scallywag school for the little ones to see if they have what it takes to be a part of Blackbeard's Crew!


Virginia Dare Faire

The Lost Colony and The National Park Service will join forces in a special Virginia Dare Faire on the grounds of the Fort Raleigh National Park Site on Friday, August 18th from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.. All aspects of the Faire will be free to the public and families are encouraged to attend. The activities will be educational and packed with entertainment value. For further family entertainment, attend the performance of The Lost Colony that evening starting at 7:30 p.m . Soundside Fun Fair

Join us for the Second Annual Soundside Fun Fair to benefit the Children & Youth Partnership for Dare County (CYP)! Come out to The Soundside event site in Nags Head, June 15-18 from 5 p.m.-11 p.m. for good, old-fashioned carnival fun. Bring friends and family to enjoy the sights, sounds, and smells of a carnival with fabulous rides for all ages, including a giant Ferris wheel, games and food concessions. There will be cotton candy, funnel cakes, chicken-on-a-stick, and more. Wind Voyager Triple-S Invitational

Internationally recognized as the crown jewel of wakestyle kiteboarding competition, the 2018 Wind Voyager Triple-S Invitational will showcase the talents of the most progressive wakestyle kiteboarders on the planet. The format pits riders against one another in high-stakes heats and laid-back freeriding sessions in the world’s premier kite park. Competitors will battle for $50,000 in prize money and the glory of being crowned the 2018 Wind Voyager Triple-S Invitational Champion. The event is free and open to the public. The kids will love watching the incredible tricks!

4th of July On The OBX

When you want to experience a spectacular 4th of July celebration, there is no place like the Outer Banks. The OBX features four separate fireworks shows for your family to enjoy. No matter where you plan to visit there is a celebration near you. Here is everything you need to know to find the perfect fireworks show this 4th of July.

There are four fireworks shows during the 4th of July on the OBX. Two of them can be viewed atop Jockey's Ridge. These are the Manteo (Fireworks on the Sound) and the Nags Head Fishing Pier shows. Watching atop Jockey's Ridge is a true OBX 4th tradition that you must try at least once. For those of you on Hatteras Island, you'll want to check out the show at the Avon Fishing Pier.
